In "Silent Thunder" Montana Pino has created a lyrical and lovely compendium of poetry and original, impressionistic artwork. This book entrances with the author's voice, reflecting her love of nature and appreciation of the magic of life both seen and unseen. Her poetry is accessible and vivid, evoking images that the reader most surely will identify with and absorb. She writes "If I were in a cloud of gold, and You were sweeping up the sky, would You see a little soul as I went floating, gently by?"
We were very fortunate in the Women's Writing Circle to hear Monti read some of these poems before publication, as well as describe her love of poetry which began in the first grade when, as she says, she "scrawled her first poem on the wood of the back bay window of her grandmother's house." I will go back to this book and its colorful illustrations again and again and continue to savor the deeper, richer meanings within its pages.
